Fashion Review: Living Without a Dress Code

What if schools didn’t have a dress code? How would the students react? Will this give them the freedom what to wear at school?

If the school didn’t have a dress code everyone would be free what to wear to show their own beauty. Everyone would show their beauty in their own fashion. Some people would choose to show their shoulders, legs, and more. Joelle Wiley said that she thinks “More people would dress more appropriately.”

The pros of not having a dress code include people living their life feeling confident in their bodies and expressing what true beauty is. The cons are that people might be bullied for showing skin and not showing the kindness of how people express themselves. It even can lead to sexual harassment.

Many people believe that dress codes were created because boys get distracted by what girls wear at school, although there are rules for both genders. This perception caused a problem at Armijo with people tweeting and snapchatting about the topic. “It’s more like mind your own business,” said Wiley. “If my shoulders are really distracting that much, then don’t look at me. It’s very simple.”

One of the benefits of summer is that there is no school-enforced dress code, at least for students who aren’t attending summer school. “You don’t have to worry about getting dressed coded, and don’t have a consequence or feeling uncomfortable,” said Wiley. So if you want to, let the shoulders show, wear the sagging pants or put the t-shirt with the questionable image over your short shorts. Enjoy the freedoms while you can. The dress code returns in August.
