The Space Between Us, directed by Peter Chelsom, made its debut in theaters on February 3, 2017. It became the most amazing sci-fi, drama, romance movie of the year.

It begins with Gardner (Asa Butterfield), a bright 16 -year-old boy who lives on Mars and spends his time watching movies, working with robots, and messaging with his female friend, Tulsa (Britt Robinson). She is a foster kid who has been out of foster homes her whole life. The two have a very strong connection except for the fact that she doesn’t know Gardner lives on Mars and can’t come to Earth due to his heart condition.

Gardner has always wanted to leave Mars to experience Earth. His guardian, Kendra (Carla Gugino), decides to ask Nathaniel (Gary Oldman), the billionaire behind the corporation, to grant Gardner a chance to visit Earth. He is able to come to Earth, but he has to go through training and have surgery on his heart before his trip. While Gardner is on Earth, he has to be monitored closely. Despite the warnings, he slips out to meet with Tulsa in person in Colorado.

Meanwhile, Kendra and Nathaniel search for him to get him back safely before any complications begin. Tulsa and Gardner try and find his biological father and fall deeply in love as they embark on this mini-adventure. However, it becomes apparent that Gardner, whose body isn’t familiar with Earth’s gravity, may suffer fatal consequences if he doesn’t return to Mars.

Although, this film may be compared to The Fault In Our stars or Everything, Everything and other similar films, it is a whole different type of romance, with qualities that makes it extraordinary. I recommended this to anybody who enjoys sci-fi, romance, or drama films and wants a good movie for a friends’ night in or even just a movie night alone that you won’t regret watching.
