Tomb Raider was first released in 1996. The latest version of the movie was released on March 16, 2018. Tomb Raider, a Warner Bros Production, is a fantasy action cinematic production that features a female lead. Lara Croft, the daughter of an adventurer, takes it upon herself to find her missing father in Japan. Throughout her journey of searching for her father, she embarks on a trek to a fabled tomb on a mythical island. Croft is an independent, fierce, and courageous female character in which she relies on her sharp mind and blind faith to get through the unknown.

According to critics, Tomb Raider was a hit or miss, considering it’s 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Vikander, who can balance flinty charm with sympathetic humanism, helped keep me invested, but Tomb Raider could best be described as a solid step forward, away from past wrongs.”

  • David Sims (Top Critic for The Atlantic)

“The main problem with this lackluster reboot is the absence of any interesting characters other than Lara Croft herself. This unimaginative adventure tale is loaded with literal cliffhangers, to the point of being repetitive.”

  • Robert Roten (Laramie Movie Scope Critic)

As a female viewer, I always find it empowering to watch a movie that centers around girl-power. Laura Croft is deemed to be an inspiration to younger girls outside of the femininity stereotypes and proves to be a figure of equality in the movie industry. The plot line is simple, straight to the point, and briskly paced. Alicia Vikander, was said to portray Laura Croft’s amateur personality quite well. Tomb Raider is a movie that is worth a watch in the theatre!
