Club Corner: Andrew’s Bookshelf

Changing Armijo one book at a time.

“Powerful change in your community.

A new club has arrived on the Armijo scene. To speak more about the subject, we invited junior Arsh Sharma, one of the many founders of the club, to speak more. Andrew’s Bookshelf was created in the honor of the late Andrew Lucas, a remarkable student leader, “…he was an exceptionally sharp student. Andrew’s mother came to us with the idea of remembering Andrew though this club.” This club is sure to leaving a lasting influence in the legacy of Andrew Lucas. In addition to the club, Sharma added that a bench is being made in his honor. For Armijo students interested, Andrew’s Bookshelf will be fundraising and collecting books.

When asked about the future of the club, Sharma replied, “These books are getting donated to lower income kids and the club members will also read to the kids to get them into a more of an educational path in life.” Thus far, Sharma shares that the club has already accepted several dozen books from the Armijo librarians and is currently seeking new donations. Books ranging from children, young adult, and research books are all accepted. Future fundraising information will be released, with a Barnes and Noble event being in the works.

“Meetings will be every Monday, advised by Mr. Klapper.

— Arsh Sharma

The club is a great way to give back to the community, similar to Read Across America. Anyone with a passion for helping others and the Armijo/Fairfield community is encouraged to join. Further along the year,  planned monthly field trips will be taken to read at shelters and other volunteer areas. Founders include: Alex Peppard, Rachel Weise, Mackenzie Kolasa, Justin Less, Walter Mendoza, Keaton Logsdon, and Peter and Jonathan Tavenier.

Sharma stated, “We welcome you to be a part of Andrew’s Bookshelf. Don’t miss out and help our community in ways you never believed you ever could.”

Books for all ages are currently being accepted.
