As we near the chilly mornings of autumn, we are brought closer to our families and friends by our shared celebrations, traditions, and holiday spirit. In the past weeks, Armijo has been brought together in helping those impacted by the local wildfires. As new members have settled into Armijo clubs, students have grown into their classes and routines. In the past month, teachers competed to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and soon we will once again begin to see the familiar giant collection cans of the annual can drive.

In our last editorial, Isabella explored the excitement leading up to Halloween and the fall season. In this edition, the Armijo Signal will take a look at families, the heart of the holiday season. Families are not limited by pure definition. Instead, they are a gallery of affection and care. We draw meaning from the relationships we draw with who we consider to be our families, whether adopted, biological, single parent, or fostered. A family represents a shared bond, a sacrifice, and an unspoken connection. Before we become citizens or students, we are first and foremost a part of a family.

Of course, holidays and family represent different sentiments to different people. For some, the simple thought of families and holidays may ignite feelings of anxiety (disagreement at dinners, spending time with in-laws, etc.). However, for others, the idea of holidays and family conjure heartfelt memories. The word “family” summon a myriad of emotions, ideas, and sentiments. In this edition of the Signal, we will consider the extent of which we are influenced by our families.
