Homecoming! What a week it will be!

Homecoming Week is back in full force, with dress-up days, lunchtime activities, a pair of awesome football games and, of course, a dance.

The festivities will start with a “Lazy” Day as students come to school in their most comfortable clothes. There is also a lunchtime activity planned to start the week with the excitement that fits when the football team is preparing to go against our Rodriguez rivals at the end of the week.

Tuesday is Halloween, so students and staff are encouraged to dress up in costume. While the costumes must follow dress code and masks and weapons are off limits, there is still a lot of fun to be had that day.

It’s time to shine on Wednesday, November 1, when the theme is “We’re the Best in Sport!” Participants can show off their jerseys or shirts from their favorite team at the lunchtime activity that is planned.

Dress-up days get back on track after the postponed Spirit Week when students and staff spend Thursday, November 2, dressed as their favorite meme to honor Internet heroes. That night, the JV football team will start their game at 5 pm. After the game, around 7:30 pm, the classes will be presenting their floats.

The themes for the floats include The Avengers (12th grade), Batman (11th grade), Guardians of the Galaxy (10th grade), and Power Rangers (9th grade).

The celebrations don’t end there. On Friday, people are asked to dress in purple and gold, repping the Agents of Armijo. “Bonus points for tie-dye shirts,” said Mr. Brad Burzynski, leadership adviser. Music will be played at lunch and there will be a Spirit March through the halls during sixth period. The Varsity game starts at 5 pm, but there will be a tailgate/hangout in the main quad beforehand and the Army will be on campus with a rock climbing wall and various competitive activities. “We will hopefully have a large and energetic A-Team section,” said Mr. Burzynski. Those who want to participate in the Army’s events will need to fill out a 1) All Purpose Agreement for Participation AND 2) Concussion and Head Injury Sheet. These are both available on your student email and must be brought to the events. No exceptions will be made and forms will not be collected prior to participation.

There will be a Senior Night presentation at 4:30 pm, followed by the varsity game starting at 5 pm. At half-time, around 6 pm, the Homecoming Court will be introduced.

The week will end with a Spiderman Homecoming Dance on Saturday, November 4, from 7 to 10 pm in the gym. The dress is semi-formal and tickets are available until Thursday, November 2. Tickets are $15 each or $10 with an ASB Gold Card. Those who have a Gold Card can purchase a guest ticket at the same low rate. You must have a dance form filled out before buying a ticket from the Treasurer’s Office! Dance bids located in AG-5 with Mr. B or the Treasurer’s Office,” said Mr. Burzynski. The last day to turn in the dance bid for clearance is Wednesday, November 1. High schoolers from other schools require a blue “guest bid”, available in AG-5. These “guest bids” must be submitted by Tuesday, October 31, for approval.
