October 2017: Far From Home

Usman Ahamed Ameen left Tamil Nadu behind in February 2016 when he and his family moved to Fairfield. “My parents said I can get a good education in America,” he said. He likes being at Armijo “because it is better than Indian School. At Armijo, the teaching is good,” he said.

Despite the advantages, it hasn’t been easy. Ahamed Ameen missed a year of school due to an accident and he had to leave behind his grandmother and his friends in India. His hometown was filled with trees and he left behind a natural environment for the suburban city of Fairfield.

.While he is not sure what he wants to focus on for the rest of his life, he does know that he wants to go to Solano College after he graduates, and some day attend UC Davis. While he is here, he has considered playing soccer. He also said that he likes to listen to Indian music.
