October 2017: At Work | Chuck E. Cheese

Desiree Zamora started her first job last school year, working at Chuck E. Cheese as a team member. “I have to wear black shoes and a red collared shirt with slacks,” Zamora said.

Her tasks are diverse. She serves as a cashier, she helps host the parties and is responsible for general cleaning and being a Chuck E. Cheese character. It’s easy for her to keep smiling and she has made her happiness one of her career goals. “I got to meet amazing people,” she said about her coworkers. “I do whatever I am told to, try my best and spread positivity. I got employee of the month.”

Zamora started working to support herself financially and it has been a good experience. “I like my boss a lot because she is understanding and kind. I can be myself around her,” said Zamora.

While she doesn’t particularly like dealing with the rude or disrespectful customers, Zamora does enjoy getting a regular paycheck. She earns $10.50 an hour and works between 25 and 30 hours a week. “Don’t let any negative coworkers, energy or anything else get to you,” she said. “Always do the right thing.”

When she’s not at work or at school, she is usually just hanging out with her friends.
