A chill job

For the last couple of months, Damian Santos Taylor has been spending his time practicing his scooping and singing skills at ColdStone Creamery. “I serve ice cream wash dishes and clean the store,” he said.

Santos Taylor’s first job was working at Calvin Klein. He said that his career goal was to become rich someday, but he is doing it one step at a time. For now, he works “to make money and have experience,” he said. It was hard for Santos Taylor to choose the best part of his current job. He was torn between the benefits of the tips and the time with his coworkers. The most difficult part, though, is the constant work. “I’m very productive and understand what needs to be done,” he said.

After a 20-hour workweek making minimum wage and going to school four periods a day (Santos Taylor has neither a first or sixth period), he still finds time to work out, play sports and hang out with his friends.
