September 2017 Teacher Feature: Adding to the Excitement

Teaching in classroom of B-10 sits a mastermind math teacher, Mr. Joe Arbizu. He’s been teaching for eight years, but it seems like this job was destined for him. His lessons are so simple to follow, even when the problem or formula is intricate, or displeasing to the eye.

Mr. Arbizu got his degree at University of California, Davis. Before his job at Armijo, he was working as a tutor. A friend had suggested that he look into working as a teacher and before long he was at Armijo High.

This school has brought him to work with awesome teachers and the range of students that make every single day unique. His favorite thing about his career is seeing when students understand his lectures, or when the lesson essentially clicks in their minds. He dislikes knowing that he is not able to help out everyone.

When asked about his favorite math lessons, he could hardly settle on three! The first was convex geometry. (That is a geometry branch that studies convex sets.) Second is non-Euclidean geometries: the difference between metric geometries is the essence of parallel lines. Last but not least, topology, or the study of geometric properties and spatial relations uninfluenced by the constant change of size or shape of figures.

Arbizu is an intelligent teacher with exceptionally hilarious humor in the classroom. He takes everyone’s learning very seriously, but tries to create a healthy and borderline eccentric environment!
