Officer Choices, Signatures, and Leadership Application

On September 8, candidates need to have submitted the officer choice list and signature sheet to Mr. Brad Burzynski, Leadership adviser, in room AG5. This packet of information can be picked up from Mr. Burzynski but must be returned before the end of the day on Friday, September 8. With this packet, he will perform a background check. Not only must candidates be enrolled, or willing to enroll, in the Student Leadership Class [with exceptions made for those enrolled in 0 Period IB class] but also, they must also have at least a 2.5 grade point average and no behavioral problems.

Signatures

Those running for class office need to get 50 signatures from other freshman students but not from those involved in leadership. These signatures must be obtained in a concentrated effort, not simply from passing around the piece of paper in class. Candidates are encouraged to go around and meet students, informing them of the desire to run for office, their plans if elected and their desire to have electoral support from those who are signing.

Speeches and Question and Answer Session/ Interview

Candidates will be giving a speech to the freshman leadership class at the class meeting and are asked to arrive no later that 6:50 am in your class meeting on Wednesday, September 13. Mr. Burzynski and the freshman adviser will be sitting in to listen to the speeches, which should run up to three-minutes long. A guideline for the speeches will be provided in the packet that is provided to candidates on Friday, September 8. After the speech, Mr. Burzynski, the freshman adviser, and the freshman leadership students will ask questions that they have prepared.

How the Election will be Scored:

Students will be ranked in order of their performance, in comparison to fellow candidates.  If there are five students running for offic, for instance, they will be ranked on a scale of one to five; five being the highest number of points available in each category.  The categories candidates will be scored in are:

  1. Speech and Question and Answer/Interview session during leadership* (50%)
  2. Leadership Vote [Electoral Vote] (50%)

*Mr. Burzynski and the freshman class adviser will judge this portion.
