An eyewitness account of the disappearing sun
By Jack Curry
Going into the experience I didn’t think it was going to be much. I thought we were going to drive up for nine hours and look at the sun for two minutes and drive back down. but I was so wrong.
The driving part of the trip could have been better but the two minutes was a once in a lifetime event. At first, when the moon started to cover the sun, it felt anticlimactic. We waited for about an hour for what would be the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and I didn’t even know it yet.
Just as the last light we could see from eclipse glasses flickered out we took off our glasses to see a beautiful black circle surrounded by an aurora of light from the sun. I was in shock when I first looked at it because, I didn’t expect anything even close to that experience.
Seeing the total eclipse was one of the best experiences of my life and if anyone has the chance to go see a one I would highly recommend it. To find out more about the next total solar eclipse, go to http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/21/us/next-total-solar-eclipse-2024/index.html)
