Armijo track athletes leave their mark at State Championships

It was a great weekend (June 3-4) for the track team down at Fresno. If you missed hearing the results:

  • Luis Grijalva is your 2017 California State Champion in the 1600 meters and took second in the 3200, losing by less than half a second!
  • Sarahvaughn King made the finals in BOTH of her individual events, the 200 and 400 meter dashes, finishing in 5th in the 200 and 8th in the 400.
  • The girls relay team of Adrien York, Lovenie Dantes, Deajanea Duncan, and Sarahvaughn won their heat to make the finals and placed 7th overall.
  • Sophomore Nixon McKenzie missed making the finals by .22 seconds, a case of bad luck because if he had been in any other heat of the trials he would have made the finals.

It was an amazing weekend, one of the best showings for Armijo Track of all time and I am sad to have the season be over. At the meet they do interviews with certain groups/individuals after their races and we were chosen for a couple.

Our girls relay after winning the heat of the trials:

Please congratulate all of these athletes on a great season. Remember, all of the places I listed above are in the state of California, so they did an amazing job and I couldn’t be prouder of them all.
