The Healthy Local Foods program is brought to us by Sustainable Solano and the interns did a lot of cooking and gardening. Many student interns, like Matthew Madrigal, are in the Multimedia Academy they had to make films to promote the internship.

Madrigal’s group made a total of four videos. “We made a short 3-part documentary on our experiences of the garden as we went on in the year,” he said. “Standard things, but our largest work was a mock-up of the television show Hell’s Kitchen… My favorite part in the whole internship was cooking. I want cooking to be my career, so having the option to learn from chefs and cooking as a team was a real treat.”

The internship program ended early in May and, on the final day, student teams had to present their videos to people from the program and from the school district, while they ate snacks and talked to many people.

“I loved this internship and I’d love to do it again,” said Madrigal. “I want to have the chance to cook again. The people were also really nice so I’d love to see them again.”
