Isabel has grown in her skills on the field.

Isabel Gutierrez is still pretty new to softball. She used to play when she was around 13, but stopped for a while. She began playing again two years ago and now represents the Armijo Royals as a member of the Varsity team.

Gutierrez’s strengths are diverse. She’s really good at hitting for power and hitting for contact, but she has also found that she is strong in throwing. While she has these distinct strengths, she loves the sport overall. She loves hitting the ball and running, because it all helps her clear her mind.

Sometimes, though, her plans don’t go the way she imagined. It’s hard when she hits the ball and it goes sideways, but it is all part of the learning process.

She is one of nine players on the field during a game and they work together well. When her team encounters a problem, the Coach Melissa Wilson usually sits them down to talk to them until it is resolved. That way, the team can continue to work as a unit, and that’s really what sportsmanship is all about.
