Quishaun Turner’s mother wanted him to have a unique name and, since he is the only student at Armijo with a name that starts with a Q, she succeeded in her goal. “She didn’t want [my name] to be spelled like everyone else’s, so she spelt it like that,” he said.

That’s not to say that his actual name is unique. There have been many people, including students at Armijo, who have a name that sounds the same – Keshon Primus is one such student this year, but several others have shared the campus with Turner, although none have ever shared his spelling.

Because the spelling is unique, it does not come across as the same name as Primus and when people first see it, they don’t always know what to call him. “They pronounce my name wrong,” Turner said.

His name would help him stand out in sports, too, if he chooses to get involved in the. “I was thinking about joining football or track,” he said.

Although he is only a sophomore, he already has his eyes on the future. “I want to go to college, but I don’t know which one I want to go to yet,” he said. “And I want to do real estate.”
