Off Campus Athelete – Caroline Chouinard (Dancing)

Caroline Chouinard is a Junior at Armijo and ever since she was 2 years old, she was a dancer.

More specially a ballet dancer at first and then later in her life, she got into other types of dance

such as Jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, modern, and musical theater. She used to go

to her local dance studio called “In Motion” where she learned up to 10 dances at a time for 10

years of her life. She used to play soccer, but then decided to quit soccer in order to have more

time to pursue dancing. Currently during her Junior year of high school, she says she

unfortunately can’t dance as much as she used to, so she only learns 5 dances at a time now.

Caroline said an interesting quote that I’d like to include,”I dance for many many reasons, most

of which are the reasons anyone finds meaning in the things they do, like music or dance or

writing etc. I dance because I can express myself sometimes better than I can with words. I am

a dancer because it’s the part of my identity where I feel constantly fascinated and challenged

and inspired. The dance community is one that I am so proud to say I am a part of and I feel

that dance has shaped me so much into who I am today. I am a strong believer that what I learn

through competitive dance and the industry can be useful for everything else I will face in life

from the big picture things like dealing with competition, and rejection, and goal setting. But also

like, planning a wedding for example, is no big deal to me, it’s basically like planning a

production. So I love dance for so many reasons and it’s such an important resource for my

creativity and happiness and confidence, and I hope I will always have dance in my life to some

capacity.” As you can see, dancing is an important part of her life and we are glad to have her at

Armijo.
