Athlete Focus: Kaycee Castellanos

For Kaycee Castellanos, it all started when her Water Polo coach introduced her to swimming. “I

chose to swim because it would be a good experience and a lot of fun,” she said. “This is my third year

doing swimming.” While she enjoys the sport, she said that she doesn’t plan to continue it in college.

However, she does “love to do water polo.”

“If I could, I would change attendance at sports games because hardly anyone shows up,”

Castellanos said. She would encourage people to be part of the audience, as well as get involved in the

game. For future athletes, she can’t stress enough the connections that she has made in the pool.

“Choose something that you really love and try to make friends along the way,” she said.

When participating on the swim team, Castellano’s favorite stroke is freestyle. Her most

memorable meet was against Vacaville. “Someone on my team false started and I tried to stop them,

but I ended up falling in the pool,” she said.

When she’s not in the water, she enjoys hanging out with her friends. She is the oldest of three

children. Her 15-year old brother, Carlos, is a freshman at Armijo and she has an 11-year old sister.

Castellanos already has her sight set on going to college at UC Davis in the fall of 2018.
