Barun Singh has been playing basketball for four years and has played for the Armijo Royals for the last three years. “I didn´t play basketball my freshman year because I wanted to get a feel of the school and get a good start into my academics’,’ he said.

“Basketball is more than just a sport to me,” said Singh. “It’s hanging with teammates, making memories, cracking jokes…It’s like a brotherhood.”  For this athlete, playing sports is also a great way to meet new people, make new friends and even just see familiar faces on campus.

Singh’s favorite professional team is the Los Angeles Lakers and his favorite player is Kobe Bryant because his “work ethic and mentality have impacted the way I approach this sport,” he said. When he plays, he is motivated to represent his culture.

When he isn´t playing basketball, Singh finds time for himself at the gym lifting weights. He also enjoys listening to music. He is currently listening to NBA Youngboy on repeat. If he wasn´t playing basketball, he said he would be playing volleyball and be a “jumper guy”.

He doesn´t have a favorite basketball movie but he does have a favorite show “Last Chance U: Basketball ” on Netflix.

Singh´s goal for his senior year is to stay consistent, and an achievement he´s hoping to reach is winning his league. Before every game he listens to music and goes into prayer.

After high school, Singh plans on attending college, possibly Sac State University. He wants to go into the medical field and said, “if I have time on my hands I definitely plan on playing college level basketball.”

His career goal after graduation is to be a nurse practitioner or clinician who focuses on managing patients´ health conditions by treating injuries and illnesses, as well as supporting injury and disease prevention. Down the road in his medical career he hopes to get into surgery.
