Stormy weather didn’t prevent the Royals from scoring big on January 10.

Varsity: Coach Flores is so proud of these boys on their game Tuesday, January 10, and what they brought to the field. Less than five minutes into the game, the Rodriguez Mustangs made a simple mistake in the box which gave the Royals’ the PK and the first goal of the game by Senior Captain Diego Torres. There was a lot of solid play by both teams but then, about 15 minutes into the game, Junior Santiago Alvarez was able to sink one into the net. Armijo finished the half at 2-0 and had the team had a good talk about some minor adjustments to make during the break.

The boys came back in and played a strong game but unfortunately gave away a PK in the box which allowed Rodriguez to sink one in just pass the Armijo keeper in the last six minutes. This pushed the Royals to step up their game and they were then able to work the ball up the field and Senior Abraham Perez Ascencio was able to sink in their third goal of the game. “I was very proud of the boys tonight and what they brought to the field, they really stepped up their play and learned a lot from all of those preseason games,” said Coach Megan Flores.

Armijo takes on Will C Wood on Thursday January, 12, with another home game.

JV: The game started off with both teams fighting for possession and getting an equal amount of opportunities. Armijo had great defensive plays by Jeremiah Tam and Mauricio Galindo to stabilize the defense. Forward Luis Garcia Carreon had a couple chances that ultimately were not put into the back of the net. The first half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Valentin Vera took advantage of a Rodriguez defensive mistake and slotted in a goal in a 1v1 against the keeper to make it 1-0. As the half continued, a great ball was given to Isaac Aguirre who was fouled by Rodriguez goalkeeper but the ball remained in play for Ricardo Brambila to score his first JV goal and win the game 2-0.
