Look up in the sky and you are likely to recognize the arrangement of some stars, but did you know that each of the Zodiac signs is represented in the night sky?

Capricorn ♑

December 22-January 19: Sea Goat (Head of a Goat, bottom half a tail) – Earth sign

The zodiac Capricorn is the 40th largest constellation in the sky, making the zodiac the smallest of the 12. It can be seen at latitudes between +60 and -90° and is located in the fourth quadrant of the southern hemisphere. Best viewed: 9 pm during September

Aquarius

January 20-February 18: Water- Bearer – Water Sign

The Aquarius constellation is a part of the most recognized constellation in the Sun’s path. It is also known as the “water-carrier” or “cup-carrier” in Latin and is the 10th largest constellation in the sky. It can be seen in both the Southern Hemisphere during spring and fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Best viewed: During October at 9 pm

Pisces ♓
February 19 – March 20: Fish – Water Sign
Located in the northern celestial hemisphere, this is the 14th largest constellation of the 88 constellations. The zodiac sign is frequently linked to a Greek legend about Aphrodite and her son Eros. Best viewed: 9 pm in November

Aries ♈
March 21 – April 19: Ram – Fire Sign
The Aries constellation is mid-size and not super bright; only a few of its stars can be visible to the naked eye. According to Greek mythology, the Ram was originally golden and sacrificed to Zeus. It can be located in the Northern Hemisphere. Best viewed: 9 pm during December

Taurus
April 20 – May 20: Bull – Earth Sign
The Taurus constellation is one of the noted constellations and is most famous for its red giant star, also a star cluster, Pleiades. The red giant star is also known as Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation and 14th brightest star in the sky. It is located in the Northern Hemisphere. Greek God Zeus fell in love with Phoenician Princess Europa so, to carry her up to Crete, he transformed himself into a Bull and named him Taurus. Best viewed: 9 pm in January

Gemini ♊
May 21- June 21: Twins – Air Sign
The Gemini constellation is located in the Northern Hemisphere and is associated with the twins Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology. It is one of the first constellations listed by a Greek-Roman astronomer. The mythological twins were the children of Leda, a Spartan queen. Best viewed: 9 pm during February

Cancer ♋
June 22 – July 22: Crab – Water Sign
The Cancer constellation represents a huge crab that attacked Hercules during the second of the 12 Labors. He showed remorse for killing his family and the goddess Hera was jealous and sent the crab to confuse Hercules as he battled the serpent that he later killed with his club. Best viewed: 9 pm during March

Leo
July 23- August 22: Lion – Fire Sign
The 12th largest constellation of all of the 88 others and located in the Northern Hemisphere at a latitude between +90° and -65°, the Leo constellation is one of the earliest and is associated with the Nemean Lion from Greek mythology, who was killed by Hercules. Best viewed: 9 pm during April

Virgo ♍
August 23 – September 22: Maiden – Earth Sign
The Virgo constellation is the largest of all the zodiacs; most of the stars in the constellation are dim except for Spica, a blue-white star. Virgo is usually connected to the Greek goddess of justice, Dike, and the harvest goddess and daughter of Demeter, Persephone. Until the god of the underworld Hades kidnapped Persephone, the earth experienced eternal spring. Best viewed: 9 pm during May

Libra
September 23 – October 23: Scales – Air Sign
The Libra constellation is the only zodiac sign that is not an animal or character but instead an inanimate object. This constellation is located in the southern sky and has heavily influenced astrology, hard science, and mythology. The Scales once meant harmony, balance, and justice, but in modern science, it represents an alluring target for astronomers and is the reason for astonishing cosmic objects. Best viewed: 9 pm during June

Scorpio
October 24 – November 21: Scorpion – Water Sign
The Scorpio zodiac is associated with many different myths, including when Orion, the celestial hunter, declared to the goddess Artemis that he could defeat any animal on Earth. She sent a scorpion to kill him, and, as the battle went on, Zeus found out and sent them both into the sky as a reminder for mortals to restrain from extreme pride. Best viewed: 9 pm during July

Sagittarius
November 22 – December 21: Archer – Fire Sign
The Sagittarius constellation is located at the center of the Milky Way galaxy and is located in the Southern Hemisphere. This constellation, unlike the others, is very visible to the naked eye, having many bright stars. The Sagittarius symbol represents the Archer who was sent to shoot the scorpion that had been sent to kill Orion. Best viewed: 9 pm during August
