Have you ever enjoyed a meal at the Mediterranean Food Center at 823 Texas Street in Fairfield? If not, you should! 

This is a family-owned business and many of the staff members over the years have been Armijo graduates, so hats off to the Karaouni family who runs this establishment. They were very friendly and the vibes were also friendly.  The restaurant is not just a restaurant but also a grocery store with plenty of Mediterranean food specialties, which could be pretty resourceful and quick if you need to pick up a few things as you wait for your meal. 

People recommended the Gyro sandwich, a traditional Mediterranean dish with marinated slices of seasoned beef, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, seasoned grilled onions, cucumbers and yogurt garlic sauce on gyro bread. Other options include the lamb kebob for $13.99. The lamb kebab is char-boiled marinated cubes of lamb with hummus, salad and pita bread.

When I went to the Food Center, I ordered one of their salads for $3.50. It was fresh and flavorful. I also ordered their Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich for $8.36, because I read in one of the reviews online that “it is an excellent sandwich”. When I tried it, it was indeed an excellent sandwich. The Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich can be made with lamb, beef, or chicken and include grilled onion and mayo. 

My mom ate the same thing as me and said, “It’s not bad,” implying she liked the sandwich. 

The prices are reasonable for the amount of food provided.

I give the restaurant a rating of 4.5 out of 5. I will definitely come back when I have more time and recommend others to try it.
