The movie behind the curtain

DVD Review – The Adam Project (2022)

The Adam Project is about a special mission a 12-year old boy got. At first, just by the title, I expected the movie to be a documentary about a project gone wrong. This title reminded me of the documentary The Blair Witch Project, but it has shown me not to judge a book by its cover.

This movie explores how Adam (Ryan Reynolds) comes from the future to his past 12-year old self (Walker Scobell). He tried to travel to 2018, but ended up in 2022. This timeline is important to the story because it shows how everything works and what is happening in the movie, which explains how he thinks and why the younger version of him and older version of him are so different.

Personally I think the best version of Adam is his younger self because he’s more curious and outgoing; but he is a little too curious at times. His father wasn’t the best character to come either. I feel his father is a little off because he didn’t want to listen to his son and wasn’t allowing him to do what he needed for the plot, but he did pull through at the end.

The cast for this movie was a great choice as they are so comfortable with each other. Jennifer Garner, who plays Ellie Reed, and Mark Ruffalo, who plays Louis Reed, have  worked together as a couple in the movie 13 going on 30, too, in 2004.

I feel like this movie is a good expression of how unresolved feelings can change the way you are and how you choose to grow up. If you’re looking for a funny, sci-fi, and emotional family movie, this is for you. I would personally give the movie a 7.5/10 and would watch again.
