If you thought Chess was hard… try adding another dimension.

You may never have heard of the video game 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel, but you are going to learn a lot about it in the next couple of minutes.

To start, on July 22, 2020, the video game was published to Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. It was created by Conor Peterson, with some help from Thunderspace. 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel was actually made available on all platforms by Thunderspace.

This game is directed towards 11-year olds, although young children could potentially play it. It would be more suitable for players who are at least 11 years old and older, however. Chess variation, Indie game, puzzle, and strategy video game are some of the genres that 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel falls under, so clearly it isn’t easy to categorize.

This game’s main mechanic – multiverse time travel- allows components to move through ranks and files by traveling across time and between timelines in a similar manner. It’s the first chess variation that incorporates parallel, spatial, and time dimensions. Branching timelines can be made by moving parts back in time.

The goal of the game is to checkmate your opponent or to win by causing one of your opponent’s King to become “Lost in Time” as he is traveling through time.

Similar to western chess, pieces move. They are different because they can advance up to 10 movements. The King can be made by moving parts back in time. In 5D Chess, pieces can only capture diagonally through timeframes, much like in traditional chess. Pawns can only move through time and end up in the same location on the chess board as previously mentioned. As a result, they can only capture pieces on those same locations.

Given that so few people had heard of it before, this video game wasn’t very popular. Perhaps, now that you’ve learned a little about it, you’ll be willing to give it a try.

When you first start playing chess, it often seems difficult, but that changes as you get better at it. You might feel the same way about this video game. When you first see it, you might think it’s boring or difficult, but after you give it a shot, it just might become one of your favorite video games. Especially when time travel is involved!

Although purchases vary worldwide, the cost for the United States is $11.99. As compared to other games, that is a reasonable pricing. In-game purchases are not available either! That’s a great offer, usually so frustrating to download a game you like only to later be forced to pay for an in-game item.
