The Armijo offense was held without a first down and a total of -19 yards of offense against a strong Vacaville team that is undefeated at home this year. The loss brings the JV Royals’ record to 2-7.

The Armijo defense was able to stop the Vacaville offense from scoring once when Bo Anderson recovered a fumble. Eleven different Royals recorded tackles, highlighted by a team-leading seven from Juan Uscanga. Amontay Overstreet tallied five tackles, TJ Harrell had two; Terrence Bell and Eric Jones had tackles for loss.

Varsity game: Vacaville 43, Armijo 6

For the fourth consecutive league game, the Armijo offense had a tough time getting positive momentum, and the opposition capitalized by scoring in all facets of the game. The loss brings Armijo’s record to 3-6, 0-4 in MEL play.

Vacaville began the game scoring two touchdowns in the first minute: a kickoff return for a TD and a fumble recovery for a TD on Armijo’s second offensive snap. In Vacaville’s first offensive possession, the Royal defense held the Bulldogs to only a field goal and followed up with our most substantive drive of the game that unfortunately stalled out at midfield following a failure to convert from short distances on both third and fourth downs.

The Armijo offense only mustered one more first down the rest of the game, but were given hope by the game’s final play. With the clock ticking down, quarterback Willie Nickson connected with receiver Kaiba Washington for an 84-yard touchdown, bringing Kaiba’s team-leading yardage to 92 yards during the game.

Defensively, senior linebacker Jacob Winzer tallied nine tackles; Mike Ferro had six; lineman Kendrick Salcido had six with three tackles for loss; linebacker Jayson Hubbard had five, with three for loss; Kaiba notched four from his safety position, including one for loss; and junior lineman Jericho Johnson had four, with three for loss, and one sack.

Armijo travels to Fairfield High to play the final game of the season on Friday, October 29.
