Either at home or at the theater, in color or silent, movies are a form of entertainment that has something for all ages.

Before televisions became a household staple and long before the internet existed for us to mindlessly scroll away at, people relieved their boredom by going to movie theaters. Back in the “Golden Age of Hollywood” (1910s-1960s), the average price of a movie ticket for one person was less than a dollar, so movie theaters made for the perfect evening outings for families at the time.

However, they were also a great way to see how times were changing. For example, movie theaters only started selling concessions to movie-goers to cut costs and keep the business afloat during the Great Depression when people couldn’t freely spend money. As technological developments were made, films evolved right alongside them. It took decades to create a movie with sound, speech, color, and even in 3D later on. Now, people can watch movies in the comfort of their home with a few clicks or press of a button.

This edition of the Armijo Signal offers a closer look at all aspects of the movie entertainment industry: silent film history, popular snacks, the legacy of an iconic film trilogy, recent Oscar-winners, and Gen Z’s favorite actors.
