Back to the Future is such a beloved movie franchise that several countries celebrate its own National Day.

On October 21, it will have been seven years since Marty McFly came back to the future.

Back to the Future Day is a holiday known amongst sci-fi fans. Inferring from the title, this holiday comes from the ‘80s movie trilogy Back to the Future.

In the second movie of the series, on October 21, 1985, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) traveled to the future and landed thirty years to 2015. According to cineworld.co.uk., even though it was a stab at the future (now the past) when it was written in the 1980s, the writer of the screenplay, Bob Gale, got a few things right: 1) Franchising, 2) Social Media, 3) Portable Home Technology, 4) Retro ‘80s Nostalgia, and 5) Targeted Advertising. Those things were relatively unheard of in 1985, but were all part of the world we lived in in 2015.

Back to the Future is an iconic, well-loved trilogy where director, Robert Zemeckis created a set of stories based on time travel. The movie had even won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing as well as the People’s Choice Award in 1986, among other awards.

This movie paved the way for the science fiction genre and has become much more popular over the years. Back to the Future Day celebrates the movie series on the day that everything had changed in the movie. It has maintained its popularity for its contents and the fact that some of the predictions made in 1985 have come true.

Not only has the movie been enjoyed by fans worldwide, but it provided scientists with ideas about the possibilities of time travel.
