Everyone has a favorite activity, whether it’s watching television while lounging on a couch or racing around a field while attempting to move a ball from one side to the other. Misael Cisneros Gomez is definitely in the second category.

Cisneros has played soccer for over a decade and is quite dedicated to the sport. While he has played on club teams over the years, he has played on the Armijo Varsity team since he was a freshman.

“Playing soccer has been my passion for as long as I can remember,” he said. That dedication has led to him winning about 15 medals but it takes hard work and a balance of life, school, and sports.

“Soccer is my passion, and when I’m under stress, it helps me let out whatever resentment or aggravation I may be feeling,” he said. “The fact that my father used to play personally helps me with it, which is a blessing because he keeps me on my toes and encourages me.”

Cisneros currently plays midfield, but would want to be the goalkeeper. He said that one of his superstitions includes wearing tape around his wrist while playing, which he refers to as a “good luck charm,” but he hasn’t always had good luck with the tape. He once tore an ankle ligament, which caused him to miss six months of work. That was one of the most difficult things he has endured, both physically and mentally.

After graduating from high school, Cisneros wants to continue to play soccer. The sport is his true love and he doesn’t want the trip to end.
