Family-friendly festivities will include a silent disco, trick-or-treating, live animal encounters, planetarium shows, and more!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 29, 2022) — The California Academy of Sciences invites families to bring their costumes and curiosity for a night of trick-or-treating around the world’s only aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum housed under a living roof. Among spooktacular animals and spine-tingling scientific specimens, the Academy presents SuperNatural, an annual Halloween fundraiser supporting the Academy for All initiative, which provides free and reduced admission opportunities and access to science to communities in the Bay Area and beyond.

This year’s SuperNatural will feature a silent disco in the aquarium, where guests can grab a pair of headphones and groove to family-friendly jams throughout the night. Around the museum, partygoers can enjoy live animal encounters with Lindsay Wildlife Experience, catch a magic show, and transform into their favorite Academy animals with the help of festive face painters. At the Philippine Coral Reef, visitors can catch a special nighttime dive show featuring a surprise costumed guest, and can partake in hands-on Halloween arts and crafts throughout the museum. Costumes are encouraged, and children will receive a reusable goodie bag as they trick-or-treat throughout the Academy. Inside the planetarium, guests can enjoy live, presenter-led showings of “Trick-or-Treating around the Solar System,” including an early, lights-on showing for younger guests.

In the Academy’s Moss Room, teens can hang out and enjoy an exclusive Teen Lounge featuring snacks, mocktails, arcade games, and more—no adults allowed. Guests will also be able to discover the mysterious world of Bugs as they explore the Academy’s latest exhibit. For more creepy crawlers, they can examine spooky spider and scorpion specimens with Academy researchers, interact with live insects from Savenature.org’s Insect Lab, and even take a ride on a larger-than-life-mechanical spider.

SuperNatural is co-chaired by Brynn Bailey, Felicia Chiu, Maggie Danielson, Catherine Drybrough, and Caitlin Fisher.
