The first Improv Workshop of the school year is scheduled for Tuesdays, October 4 and 11, from 4:30 – 6:30 in Ms. Sheena Beeson’s classroom, T-2. Students do not have to sign up to join the Improv Workshop, but space is limited. Tryouts for the Improv team, which are also open to anyone on campus, are on Wednesday, October 12 from 3 to 5 pm.

“The Improv Workshop is something our Armijo Theatre Productions hosts as a way to condition students who are interested in trying out for our Improv Team,” said Ms. Beeson, Theatre Club adviser. She has been hosting the club’s Improv Shows for nine years, but a little over four years ago she started doing the workshops, too.

Throughout the years she has enjoyed every part of the workshops, getting to know each individual and creating a safe welcoming place at Armijo.

The Improv Workshop allows students to be part of a collaborative community. Ms. Beeson said that she has been noticed students most enjoy the little comedy games they play while attending the workshops.

One of the games planned for the Improv Workshop is The Dating Game, where a host, a questioner, and three contestants participate. The questioner is “looking for love,” so he or she asks questions of the contestants to decide who might be worthy of a date.  The contestants, however, each have a secret identity that only the audience knows, and they must answer questions according to their assigned character. After a couple rounds of questions, the questioner must make guesses as to who each contestant is being.
