Brothers who are there for each other

Sibling Spotlight – Omar, Sergio, and Leonel Rodriguez-Ramirez

Growing up with two brothers can be hard, but it can also be good, especially when they share the same campus. Sergio Rodriguez-Ramirez is the middle child and he said, “Growing up with my brothers we never really hated each other. We usually only argue in playful ways.”

Omar is the eldest of the three. “It isn’t difficult or different being the oldest sibling,” he said. “The only responsibilities that I really had were getting a job and learning how to drive.”

Most people think that the oldest sibling gets the most privilege, but Omar disagrees. “I have never really felt like I had privileges. I’m just considered the smart kid due to the fact that I have had good grades my whole life.”

“Omar is more reliable because he’s the oldest out of us three and he can be more reliable at times,” said Sergio.

Growing up as the youngest sibling put Leonel in a unique place. “It is hard because I’m the one usually getting picked on, but that’s what all brothers do to each other,” he said. “Sergio always tries to get me to go to the park and be productive, but it isn’t really my thing.”

From his perspective, Leonel can see the differences between his older brothers. “I would say that Omar treats me better because he doesn’t bother me as much and doesn’t force me to do things as much,” he said. “We have back and forth conflicts sometimes, but 99% of the time it’s just for jokes.”
