Skate for Change (S4C) is back for another year of giving back at Armijo. Starting with their first meeting on September 27, S4C will host weekly meetings Tuesdays in A-8, with bonus activities and opportunities throughout the year

Despite the name, Skate for Change does not do any actual skating. They are, instead, known for their powerful community service work, such as making care packages for the homeless of downtown Fairfield, and volunteering for food banks. One of their most popular events is Socktober. During the month of October S4C rallies up the school to donate new and unused socks to donate to homeless shelters in the Fairfield-Suisun area. As a result people highly value S4C as a great way to give back to the community. Vice-President Leslie Silva said, “It’s a great benefit to the community that every student should take part in.”

The club is open to anyone and can even offer CAS (Community / Action / Service) hours for those participating in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Armijo. Throughout the year students get to participate in enriching community service activities and form close bonds with other members in the club.

S4C is run Ms. Grace Fahrenthold, who will answer questions and concerns students may have about the program. The club will be hosting a stand at this year’s Club Rush on September 21 and 22 to provide more information.
