College campuses like Bates (above) become more of a reality for the members of this club.

Eight years ago, Ms. Nicole Shabazz and Ms. Sandy Anderson started the College and Career Club. The club has been thriving ever since.

The Club’s Mission Statement is “The Officers and Advisors aim to provide resources, information, and opportunities concerning supporting the members’ path to various colleges and careers. The College and Career Club is inclusive of all backgrounds and does not discriminate.”

Those officers this year have been President Olivia Mauk, Vice President Melissa Theodorus, Secretary Jared Christian Ramil, and Treasurer Daniela Gonzalez Castillo.

In the College & Career club, members “learn about colleges, financial aid, scholarships, military, vocational schools, and various careers from guest speakers,” said Ms. Anderson. They also enjoy field trips to various colleges and participate in fun activities, such as Kahoots, to learn more.

Anyone is welcome to join. Throughout the year, the club has been meeting on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month in B-7. Membership and attendance have ranged from about 25 to 50 students.

“The officers and advisors aim to provide resources, information, and opportunities concerning supporting the members’ path to various colleges and careers. The College and Career Club is inclusive of all backgrounds and does not discriminate,” said Ms. Anderson.
