R’e is just starting to fall in love with swimming.

“I’ve always enjoyed swimming and it’s good exercise also because I’m kind of competitive and I like challenging myself to try new things,” said R’eonna (R’e) Aguilar. “I was bored at home doing nothing during COVID.”

Joining the tennis team was a natural fit for her since her mother had done the same when she was in high school. Aguilar has fun in the water, swimming both individual and relay races. She especially enjoys swimming freestyle.

She originally joined the team in February and she hasn’t quite decided if she will be swimming when she goes to college. She’s not even sure where she wants to go to college.

There’s not a lot of free time for Aguilar, between school, swimming and working, so she admitted that her primary hobby is sleeping.

“{Being involved in sports} is fun and you can meet new people,” she said. It’s also a great way to make memories. For Aguilar, her most memorable meet was her first one. “It was new, I was nervous, but it was fun,” she said.

As a sophomore, Aguilar has the potential of a lot of other meets in the next two years, a lot of other chances to make even more memories and even more friends.
