The animated movie Frozen was released in 2013 by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Two shorts, Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure were released in years following as well. The movie follows the sisters Anna and Elsa through a ‘forever’ winter. 

Frozen is a musical, like most Disney movies, and includes fan favorites like Let it Go and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? I thoroughly enjoyed all the songs and think they contribute to the story; they had a purpose. In addition, the animation style is very pleasing. I think it is realistic enough for animation, but not so realistic that it’s uncomfortable. 

There are some heart-wrenching moments, like the death of Anna and Elsa’s parents, the strained sister relationship, and Anna’s close death. However, these come with exciting and interesting twists, like Hans being a villain in the story. 

The main thing that grabbed my attention is that Anna and Elsa were not saved by men in their story, unlike their Disney princess counterparts. The love of sisterhood is what eventually saves them. This is a good thing to show children because it proves that princesses do not need a prince to save them.

If for the last nine years you have avoided watching Frozen, you should watch it, and its 2019 sequel Frozen II. The original has been my favorite Disney movie for a while and I especially loved the live performance at the Disney California Adventure Park in Disneyland. Frozen will always have a special place in the hearts of many.
