For the last three years, the Boys’ Junior Varsity players have called Tyler Dunkin “Coach.” It hasn’t been an easy position for him, with COVID starting at the beginning of spring 2020 and continuing to impact indoor sports for both players and fans.

“COVID has mad becoming a team and being together a challenge,” said Coach Dunkin, who was on the team when he was at Armijo. He graduated in 2011 and came back to coach because of his love for the sport and his pride in the school. “Having Armijo pride means a lot to who I am,” he said. He also has a fitting name for a basketball coach.

For future alumni who might be interested in following his path and becoming a coach, he explained that most coaching “is being able to connect with people and bring out the best of them.”

When he is not working to improve the game for the JV team, he works as a graphic designer for Pope Packaging in Vacaville. “I also bartend weddings for fun, occasionally,” he said.
