Lilly Fenn has been playing soccer since she was four years old, and currently plays as keeper for the Royals. “I have been playing for 12 years now,” she said. “This is my third year on varsity for Armijo.”

While she’s gone to many championships for her club teams, she is still waiting for that opportunity with the Royals. “I was about 10 when I had a tournament up in Nevada and we needed to win in order to move on,” she said. “We were two points down, but in the last ten minutes I was able to score three points back-to-back. This not only allowed us to win, but it was also my first hat trick. ”

Soccer is her true love, but she also played basketball in middle school. “Then I had to do water polo this year for P.E.,” she said. Eventually, she hopes to play soccer at either U.C. Davis or Harvard.

Last year was a hard year for the sport because of COVID, and when the season was both postponed and shortened, Fenn said that it caused her to get rusty with her skills.

In spite of that, she would encourage people to get involved with sports because there are a lot of positives. “You can’t be weak,” she said. “You have to stay strong emotionally and physically. Stuff may be hard, but you can’t just wimp out.”

Besides soccer, Fenn strengthens her heart and soul by playing guitar and doing art.
