For Damianna Gatewood, joining the Armijo Junior Varsity (JV) Girls’ Basketball team was a great way to have a good experience.

“I play power forward and small forward,” she said, but she’s not the first member of her family to play for Armijo. “My brother played basketball for Armijo when I was little and I used to watch him all the time.” Her brother Dante is 21 and she appreciates how much he helped her learn about basketball.

“The game I’ll never forget was when we won against Woodland High 41 to 15. All the girls were happy and the team looked great.

Gatewood enjoys playing volleyball, too, but it is basketball that she intends to continue playing in college. “If you’re interested in playing sports, I say, ‘Go for it’ because it’s a really good experience… If you want to do something in life, do it or you’ll regret not doing it,” she said.
