The season is on and the struggle is real.

Varsity: Armijo may have taken a second loss but the work the boys put into this game was a massive improvement from the Tuesday nightgame.

Boys came out strong and scored within the first 10 minutes off a free kick taken by Senior Captain Andy Rodríguez. The Royals kept a strong back and forth but unfortunately, towards the middle of the half, they stalled out in the plays and allowed a goal in placing the game at 1-1.

Armijo stepped it back up in the last few minutes and pushed hard to get a solid trick goal by Junior Esteban Carcamo who popped it straight by the keeper in close range play. At half, the Royals went over the few things they needed to work on and came out strong, but Pioneer pushed through for their second goal to tie us up. Then the Royals fouled the Patriots five yards outside the box, giving them a straight line shot to the goal which left the score at 3-2.

It may not be the score the Royals wanted and there a few things that were missing that caused the goals, but Coach Melissa Flores was very happy about the overall play. Armijo played strong, kept a fast paced game the majority of the time and had several shots on goal.

Junior Varisty (JV): It was a solid game for JV. There was a goal called back for a iffy call in the first half, but they gave it their all the entire game. They held the official score at 0-0 for the first half and several close calls and some great saves by Freshman Keeper Abraham Martinez.

Pioneer was able to get one by the keeper in the second half but this caused the Royals to rally up and push harder. They gained a penalty kick from Pioneer and Sophomore Edwing Pacheco Saucedo was able to sink it past the keeper with ease.

While the team wasn’t able to get another one in, they were able to hold strong again and maintain the 1-1 tie. It was a solid show by the Armijo JV team overall and saw some big improvement in play compared to the last game.

The next home game will be on Monday, December 6, against Valley. JV starts at 4 pm and Varsity starts at 6 pm.
