It’s a rough start but it is just the beginning.

Varsity: It was a tough loss on Tuesday, November 30, for the Boys’ Soccer team for the start of season. Benicia came out strong and played a solid game. Armijo came out sleeping and not ready to win ,which showed with the 2-0 score at half. The Royals rallied for the second half and came out with a much better outlook and drive to win but couldn’t get the ball past the Benicia Keeper until the last two minutes by Junior Abraham Perez which left Armijo at the 2-1 loss.

The Royals may have lost but the boys took a lot away from this game and have some key things to work on at practice to prep for the next game against Pioneer on their home turf Thursday night, December 2. The potential is there, the boys just need to want it bad enough and reach for it to get it.

Coach Megan Flores has full confidence that the Royals will learn from this and come back stronger because of it. There were still had some great moments from Armijo’s attack with great runs and near misses by Diego Torres and Esteban Carcamo. Defense also had some nice transitional plays from the Public Safety Academy (PSA) players and senior Gio Zarate. Then “the Andy’s” (Andy Rodríguez and Andy Diaz) had some solid combos and ball movement through the center.

Junior Varisty (JV): It was a strong matchup between the Armijo Royals and the Benicia Panthers. Armijo  had some simple mistakes that cost them the first goal. The boys turned it around quickly, however, and scored their own goal by Sophomore Edwing Saucedo Pacheco with a PK off a foul to one of our players.

Edwing led the attack the majority of the game and had several chances but didn’t have enough support to make the finishing shots. The Panthers held the game at 1-1 for the rest of the first half and an entire second half as well.

A few minor things for the Royals to work on and the JV team will be up and winning again in no time. Coach Alex Alonso has a lot of new players that he has to meld together to create a cohesive unit.

The next game is Thursday, December 2 against the Pioneer Patriots on their home field at Woodland Sports Complex.
