“I grew up in a soccer family,” said Varsity Soccer player Andy Rodriguez Figueroa. “My whole family played soccer except my mom, and I’ve been playing since I was like 5 or 6 years old.”

Rodriguez started playing high school soccer as a freshman and has also played for a club team in Napa. “I’ve won a couple championships in my life,” he said. His most memorable game was a final in Las Vegas. He remembers when the team scored a last minute goal and it was raining. “Such a good game, he said.

He used to play baseball, but hopes to play soccer at UC Davis or some other place local, so he decided to focus on that sport. For a brief time, during the COVID pandemic, he stopped practicing soccer, however. The lockdown affected his motivation.

During that time, he worked hard to continue practicing his other hobbies, including listening to music and hanging out with his friends, when he could.

While he enjoys playing soccer and the rush it give him, Rodriguez said that his goal is to be a master’s electrician.
