Estaban is always ready on the field.

Esteban Carcamo fell in love with soccer at a young age, so it was natural for him to join the Armijo Soccer team when he was a freshman. “I started off playing at Solano United for a few years, and then moving to Northbay Elite FC,” he said. “Then I moved to Davis Legacy Soccer and then, this year, I switched to Solano Surf FC.”

Recently, he got an invitation to go play in Barcelona with the FC Barcelona ISL (International Soccer League) Team.

Despite his experience in a variety of teams, Carcamo did have clear memories of one in particular. “While I was playing with Davis Legacy, I played an amazing game and took players on, made a few good passes and kept possession,” he said. “It was against the first place team and this game would decide the league winner as we were in second place, one point behind this team. The game was very close and in the final minutes, I made a run and got fouled a couple yards outside the 18-yard box. I stepped up for the free kick and hit it over the wall into the top near corner of the goal and scored. We ended up winning 1-0 and winning the league after that goal. It was an amazing feeling after that goal.”

Soccer has been his primary love, although he did play baseball when he was in early elementary school.  While his future plans may include college, he does have a solid idea in the works. “I plan on going overseas to attend tryouts for lower level pro teams in hopes to work my way to a higher professional level,” Carcamo said.

He doesn’t think it will be right away, though. After graduating, he wants to work and improve his skills. “At the same time, I plan to learn about investing and finding ways to make passive income to support what I am doing. I plan to invest a lot of money into stocks, cryptos and maybe real estate,” he said.

It hasn’t always been easy, especially the last few years. “COVID impacted my soccer experience in a few ways, both good and bad. At the time COVID started, I had just joined Davis Legacy and we had a Las Vegas College Showcase that we were going to attend until it got cancelled.”

Carcamo still sees the positives. “The better part of COVID was that it helped me improve on the things I needed to work on,” he said. “I was able to wake up early to go train and I had time to workout at any time of the day. I think I improved a lot over the span of quarantine since we didn’t have to attend school. I personally think it benefitted me more than hurt me.

“One of my role models is one of my coaches from Northbay FC and he now coaches at my current club. His name is Tony Bussard and he has always been an inspiration because he is a former professional soccer player that played in Holland. He has always been and amazing coach and friend to me. I have done private trainings with him and he has always pushed me to do better.”

His coach has offered lots of advice to Carcamo, and he had some advice for other students getting into sports: “Just do it! It’s an amazing experience. I have learned over the years that teammates become like family, sports teach you determination and hard work really do get you places. Sports also are a great way to meet people, get in shape and just have fun in general.”

He doesn’t have many regrets, but he does have dreams. “I wish Armijo has a better gym to attend so that our players could have a better environment to work out and improve on our physical weaknesses,” he said. He also wished that the weight room would be improved.

Soccer is Carcamo’s love in sports, but he also enjoys cooking. “I pretty much cook every day and I love to make good food,” he said. “I can also make dessert and bake.” In addition, he plays piano and enjoys working out.
