AHS runners pick up the pace for final November races.

On Saturday, November 6, the Cross Country team made the long trip up to Frogtown (the Calaveras County Fairgrounds) for their first postseason meet, Subsections. While all of the Royals did a fantastic job and many ran new personal bests on the hilly course, the following athletes went above and beyond and qualified for Sections on Saturday, November 13:

In the varsity boys race, Marcus Cunanan finished in 50th place in a time of 17:59 for the three-mile course. Also on the three-mile course, Marian Supapo qualified by finishing 35th in the varsity girls race with a time of 21:35.

In the two-mile races, Armijo had both Lilian Luu and Grace Woodby qualify in the Frosh/Soph girls race. Luu finished 4th with a time of 13:53 and Woodby was 18th in 14:43.

And last but not least, Favian Vila qualified in the Freshman boys division, finishing in 35th place with a time of 13:52.

“If you see any of these athletes please congratulate them on their achievement,” said Coach Matthew Pence. “It is not easy to claim a spot in Sections as the exact finishing place required changes year to year and race to race. They have to go out and put themselves in a spot to succeed and hope that it is good enough when the race is over.”
