You might have heard of the Percy Jackson series in your childhood days. Many don’t know about the other series Rick Riordan have written.

If the words Camp Half-Blood, demigod, and oracle spark any memories in your mind, then you’ve probably read one of the several novels written by New York Times Best Selling Author Rick Riordan. Most popular for his Young Adult mythology series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Riordan has over one hundred million copies of his books in the United States along with the disruption in more than 37 countries (About Rick Riordan).

Despite his success in his series like The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, and Trials of Apollo, Riordan wasn’t always an author. Originally, Riordan was a full time English and History teacher for 15 years at Bay Area and Texas schools. He first dove into writing professionally with an adult mystery series which was quite successful as it won national mystery genre awards. However, the inspiration for his most famous work actually came from telling bedtime stories to his son (About Rick Riordan). Soon these short stories turned into the beginning of Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief and furthering more into the field of children’s fiction.

Riordan was able to reflect on his years of teaching while writing about Greek and Roman mythology; he even took inspiration from some of his students’ names for characters (Rick Riordan). In 2010, he ventured away from the topics of Greek and Roman stories to Egyptian mythology with The Kane Chronicles. The novel was met with great success and introduced a new world of characters and adventures to fans of Riordan. This eventually led to the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series which follows Norse mythology, and holds characters some are familiar with like Thor and Loki.

It’s been 16 years since the first Percy Jackson and the Olympians book and since then two movies and a future Disney Plus series have been announced by the author himself. Riordan has created several other series that have now come to an end, however, this does not mark the end of her writing. Riordan is still going strong creating new characters and adventures for his readers to go on with series like Daughter of the Deep. So pick up a Rick Riordan book today and be immersed in a world filled with gods, prophecies, and magic.
