Achievements

Throughout my life, I have had many significant accomplishments. One accomplishment I am proud of is earning Straight A’s awards multiple times, demonstrating my academic devotion. Another achievement I take pride in is making the basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams at Dan O. Root Health and Wellness Academy. I also played for a team outside of school where my soccer team and I were undefeated for a whole season due to our dedication as players. Furthermore, I was elected to participate in the student council at Dan O. Root Health and Wellness Academy, where I learned how to effectively speak in front of large audiences and collaborate well with my fellow council members. This variety of experiences has better prepared me to become a freshmen officer. I believe that in order to serve as a successful officer, you should understand all sides of student issues. Personally, I think I am a good candidate for the treasurer or secretary position because I understand academic and student athlete issues. I will do my best to make sure students of all backgrounds can have the best experience possible in school and that they can come to me for support.

School Outreach

I am a proactive student who strives to improve their school for the better. While attending Dan O. Root Health and Wellness Academy, I served as vice president of the Anti-Bullying Club. I helped manage activities during club meetings, such as teaching how to resolve different types of bullying and exploring the different reasons why bullying occurs. I feel that through this club, I helped make a positive impact on the school by informing students on this important issue. In addition to my club role, I also participated in the school’s After School Program. The staff at this program trusted me to serve as a mentor to the younger participants. I helped the kids complete their homework and participate in sports activities. Overall, I think that my experiences in these school roles make me a good candidate for a freshmen officer position because I am used to helping out when others need it and I enjoy being a leader. As treasurer or secretary, I will share my ideas for how we can improve the school and work to enact them.

School Issues

As a fellow student who is looking to take a bigger role in the school, I actually want to progress and make some changes for the better.  I am not signing up for these officer positions for any reason but to help improve our school experience and environment. Some issues I have noticed that I think should be changed are definitely campus cleanliness, our students’ mental health, and sports support and funding. All of these issues are very crucial and I think need to be addressed. I want to do my best to validate all of the students’ feelings and give them the best experience they can have. I am always open to suggestions from them and only want the absolute best for everyone at school. The following are some ways I plan to tackle these issues.

Possible Solutions & Plan of Action

Cleanliness:

-Hold events/ gatherings to clean up the campus on certain days with music and small little treats to thank students who attend (for example, free candy).

-We could make posters, flyers, etc. and put them in common places around the school as reminders to students to pick up after themselves and sanitize.

Mental Health:

– We could take a survey on students asking about what they think is the main cause of mental health problems regarding school. Then, we could use the most common answers and advertise or spread more information about things that could help prevent those problems. (For example, if one of the common reasons was falling behind on grades, we could advertise with posters, flyers, or emails for easy tutoring programs).

– Another thing we could do is to make access to help even easier for students. We could put posters or hand out flyers with easily accessible programs used to support people who struggle with their mental health.

Sports Support & Funding:

-I have noticed certain sports get prioritized over others and I feel that we should advertise well for all sports so they get the support and funding they deserve. (For example, we could do this by handing out flyers/posters leading up to sports events.)

-We can reach out to local businesses and donors more often for every sport on campus to increase funding. Another thing we could do is school-led fundraisers and distribute the money evenly between all sports.
