Creativity pays off with Minecraft.

Have you ever wanted to fall into an empty world and build your imagination? If so, then you might be talking about the famous game Minecraft.

This game was released by TIG Forum to game developers on May 17, 2009. It was created by Markus Perason or Notch. The original name for Minecraft was Cave Game. It wasn’t released to regular gamers until November 18, 2011.

There are two modes in the game: Survival and Creative. The main goal of the game is to survive. (MoPop)  In order to survive, the player is spawned in a new world and they have to build tools, find food and build shelter to live in the world they imagine.

Minecraft gained its massive popularity in 2012 with the addition of Anvile Database System which improved the speed of the game, which gained it new players over time.

According to HostingTribunal.com,  in November of 2019, Minecraft became one of the most popular games in the world, with over 180 million downloads. In May 2020, over 200 million downloads had taken place, making Minecraft the most popular currently.

As well as having the most current downloads and being the biggest in the world, Minecraft is also the most viewed game on YouTube. Out of all the videos posted on YouTube is for Minecraft, with 41% of the accumulated views coming from just Minecraft itself.

Minecraft was owned by Monjang and Notch until 2014, once having sold 15 million copies across the world. The rights to Minecraft were eventually sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion. According to Venturebeat, once the rights to Minecraft were sold, Notch developed more games including Minecraft Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Earth.
