True geeks are plugged into their own special world.

Did you celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4?

Were you looking forward to a big slice of pie on March 14?

If those days were important to you, you’ll want to be sure to celebrate May 25, Geek Pride Day.

According to Wikipedia, Tim McEachern organized a series of unconnected events in New York from 1998 – 2000, events he called a Geek Pride Festival.

Dick Morley, a ‘father’ of the PLC, organized Geek Pride Days at The Barn, his retreat in New Hampshire, as early as 2001,” Wikipeda tells us, but the official Greek Pride Day did not develop until 2006 when German Martinez, a Spanish blogger, organized the first celebration,” Wikipedia tells us.

In 2008, Geek Pride Day was officially celebrated in the U.S. It was celebrated on May 25 because that is the day that Star Wars came out in 1977. Now, in 2021, one way you can celebrate Geek Pride Day is to put on your running shoes and go for a virtual run through Virtual Run Events. This company will donate 20% of your entry fees to Pencils for Promise, a non-profit organization that helps promote education for the less fortunate. Imagine that – you can be geeky, athletic and philanthropic all at once.
