Royals come out strong for soccer match-up.

Varsity: Rodriguez High School came out strong and Armijo had to shake off the rust before finding their usual rhythm. There were a couple close calls from sophmore Diego Torres in the first half to score, but Rodriguez swarmed and the Royals just couldn’t get it through. The Mustangs came back to the second half ready to go as did Armijo and both teams almost made a couple goals but both team keepers held it down with a shut out on both sides. Junior goal keeper Jonathon Harrington played an amazing game with some beautiful saves and his ball distribution was on mark everytime.

Junior Varsity (JV): Strong first time show for new JV Coach Alonso Frias. Boys played well and finished the first half with 0-0 on the board. Second half is where Armijo JV turned it around with two goals by sophmore Esteban Carcamo and another from junior Emmanuel Padilla. Big shout out to our sophmore keeper Miguel Salas who had an amazing double save which had all the boys cheering and held the JV boys score at the 3-0 shut out.

“Overall I am so proud of all the boys and happy with this first show for us in league,” said Coach Megan Flores. “I would have preferred a win by both teams, yes, but we played a strong game without any preseason backing us. I feel confident that with this learning experience the boys only have more good things to accomplish. The pressure is on for us to come out strong and battle our way to that top spot again.”
