In this Q&A, Pria Shabazz talks about her motivations, inspirations, and goals.

When Pria Shabazz was on her way to becoming a junior, she decided to do something a little different. She joined Leadership and became the school’s Student Relations Officer for the 2020-2021 year. This experience has taught her that, in Leadership, “you will go through ups and downs, but it is all worth it if you make at least one person’s day.”
“I was interested in being an ASB officer because I wanted to take on a bigger leadership role and challenge myself,” she said. “COVID-19 affected my role a lot because now we cannot plan in-person events for the community/school.” In the future, she said that she would hope that more students at Armijo will get involved with events and spirit weeks.
Now that she’s had the experience of leadership, she has decided to continue in student government in college. Shabazz does plan to go to a four-year college in the fall, but she’s not sure what she wants to major in. In her free time, though, she said that she enjoys playing soccer, reading, painting, journaling and collecting crystals.
As she looks to the future, Shabazz looks up because she has an older sister, Hara, who she admires. “She is definitely one of my role models,” she said. In the meantime, she is counting down the weeks until she’s ready to step into that future.
