The Kentucky Derby event, coming this May, takes place at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky.

The Kentucky Derby was first run in 1875 and is “ the longest continually held sporting event in the United States,” according to Kentucky Derby.com. The race is the first part of what is called the Triple Crown in horse racing, and few horses have won all three races in a single year. One of the most famous was Secretariat, who won in 1973 and was made famous to another generation through a movie produced in 2010.

This famous race almost always takes place on the first Saturday in May and this year that is on May 1. Derby Week started on April 24, but you can see the favored horses for the May 1 race at https://www.kentuckyderby.com/horses.
